BOOK A RETREAT +1 403 932 3174

Nov 02, 2018 - Nov 04, 2018
Our culture is fearful of facing into loss and disappointment. Grief can be overwhelming. But Lament, an artful tool in Hebrew culture, is an avenue for articulating life in hard times.

A Retreat for Writers

Begins: November 2nd, 2018 at 7 pm      Ends: November 4th, 2018 at 3pm

Putting our loss and pain into words on paper may be a first step in the expression of grief.  Through attentive writing we can often discover what is hiding in our soul, opening a path towards healing and wholeness.

Enjoy the stunning natural setting of the Ghost River valley at King’s Fold as a metaphor for your own journey through the valleys of life.  Let it inspire you as you face into your grief and as you seek healing in your grief. We will look at different forms of Lament in the Bible - exploring their reflections of our own journeys.  During this retreat there will be plenty of time to write on your own and opportunity to share your writing in a safe and caring environment.

Facilitators:  Alicia Dykstra
Cost:  $265 shared, $295 single  (limited single rooms available)

Alicia is part of the King’s Fold community and quilts and writes as a way to deal with life and faith. She experienced grief up close as she took care of her dad (a WW2 survivor) in the Netherlands in his last weeks of life. She also spent time in Rwanda and Canada with women sharing their experiences and trauma of the war in Rwanda and the DRC. As an immigrant she experienced the grief that comes with moving to a new country and losing family. She’s passionate about dealing with life and faith through creativity and helping others discover and express themselves in creative ways.
